Todas Las Cabezas Están Locas and Dans La Folie De L’Amour are the two single being released this Friday February 17th to leading up to the April 7th release of, Lo Único Constante, Alex Cuba’s sixth studio album.
Alex has finished the recording that took him to Spain and Montreal and back to Victoria with long time coproducer engineer Joby Baker putting together 12 songs that are a sonic return to Alex’s island roots.
The single in Spanish with a French version, was recorded in Montreal at Masterkut Studios and coproduced by Jean Massicotte (Alejandra Ribera, Patrick Watson). It is the first taste of the sound palate for the album to be released April 7th, 2017. Highlighted with upright bass and nylon string guitar and focusing on Alex’s songwriting roots from the guitar oriented “feelin” movement in Cuba begining in the 1940’s when record label monopolies excluded many musicians who then banded together to encourage each other and ended up creating a record label and eventual genre for their soulful poetic sound. These influences combined with the 70’/80’s soviet era Cuba, with its focus on jazz and nueva trova, lead to Alex Cuba’s classic writing and recording style.
